Dog Day Of Summer Event

Our Rodeo post last week did not go out to our reader's feeder.
We hope you all get this one!
The 8th Annual Dog Day of Summer Event was held at Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum.
A unique 733-acre combination cemetery, park, outdoor museum, and arboretum that welcomes visitors and guests to experience over 44 miles of winding roads, 15 serene lakes, a 10-acre woodland preserve, and an amazing collection of architecture, sculpture, and horticulture.
It is recognized as a US National Historic Landmark.
The Norman Chapel at Spring Grove Cemetery was constructed in 1880. It is fashioned in the Romanesque revival style and boasts several beautiful stained glass windows.
Lee has attended several services here for people who have donated their body to science.
The chapel sits by the entrance.
Oh the dogs are arriving and I had to meet and greet everybody.

We were setup in the nice shade with watering stations and pools.

I liked sitting here because the television stations that were at the event kept taking my picture.
Sadly it was this pretty sheltie's owner who got badly bitten over and over which I talked about in my post two weeks ago.
Lee has searched the news stations and papers and like so many news storys they never cover the end of the story.

Come on over and see me.  I love everybody.

Fifteen serene lakes.

This section of the cemetery is dedicated to veterans.
This section is dedicated to the little ones who only had a few minutes or days on earth.

The Dexter Mausoleum is a private, family mausoleum, often mistaken for one of Spring Grove's three chapels. Dexter was a English immigrant - a "whiskey baron." His mausoleum was intended to resemble a Gothic Revival "funerary monument." Designed in 1869, it boasts the only two symmetrical buttresses in Cincinnati. It is registered as a historical landmark.
This is a unique 733-acre combination cemetery, park, outdoor museum, and arboretum.

Now Lee wants to talk about the dog fight that happened.
The more she replays the event  in her mind and thinks about the dog we called a Husky, we think it was a hybrid dog.  We have several breeders close to Cincinnati.  We had met one at Julip Park and Sweet William had the same reaction of sniffing the wind and jumping into Lee's arms.  Our friend Janet knew a family who had a hybrid and sadly they had to put it down at age six when it became aggressive to its family just like this dog was.  This dog's fur was more wolf like and it had a smaller than normal rib cage and a slanted hind quarters.

    1. It was sheltie's Dad. He was bitten badly in the face arm and leg. He had torn skin terribly. He was taken away in an ambulance.

  11. Absolutely beautiful and I love the photo of you sitting on the chapel steps. I giggled a little at all the pools and water bowls the event had put out. I hope no dogs got them confused.

    Aroo to you,

  12. Oh, those are absolutely beautiful pics Sugar Billy!!! ☺
And, OMD, I don't knows how I missed the other postie of the big doggie fight, butts OMD!!!! I am so glads you jumped into Lee's arms! Scary indeed!!! HolyCrap! I don' t know why peeps think that every dog should go to dog parks and dog events. Some doggies get freaked out by all the stimulation. Now, sadly, those dogs and peeps are gonna have to pay the price for the owners ignorance. Thanks for the update.
Oh, and I saw you in the news clip!!! Can I gets you pawtograph???

  15. I like the meow-soleum, it's a place I rather would avoid on howl-o-ween, bet there lives a ghost or two...
I'm still so sorry for the dog-fight you saw at this event, I hope for a happy end, although it sounds more like serious trouble for the owner of the husky/wolf/hybrid owner...but maybe it is a good sign that there were no additional news?

What a gorgeous place!!! So very sorry to hear about the nasty business though. It is true that owners of such doggies are often in denial about the behaviours - they are usually not in charge at home either, having let their pup become the Alpha. That said, sometimes circumstances just trigger something and there is nothing to be done. How horrible for all concerned, but am so very glad that you were safe SW...

Oh you are so handsome Sweet William!!! It certainly looked a fabulous day - just such a shame it was marred by the incident of the bitey doggy.

  26. Oh Sweet William it looks like you had fun. Glad you were safe. Hope the man is ok and they do something about those bad dogs or hybrid dog. Some animals are just not meant to be out in public.
