The Nina & Pinta Sailed To My City

Discover Columbus' Ships
The Nina and Pinta were Caravels which were used by explorers during the Age of Discovery.
They discovered my Nati City last week!
The Nina has visited over 300 ports in the U.S.  She is the only sailing museum which is continually discovering new ports while giving the public the opportunity to visit one of the greatest little ships in the world's history.
There they are!
Two replica ships of those that sailed with Columbus.
Nina the first truly historically correct replica of a 15th Century Caravel.
Built still using design and construction techniques dating back to the 15th Century.
The ships were in
the movie released in April 2015.
The Nina was Columbus' favorite.
Named Santa Clara after the patron Saint of Moguer.  In those day they had religious names but were generally known by nicknames.

The Nina, the most historically accurate replica ever built.
Deck length - 65', Beam - 18', Draft - 7'
Tonnage - 75, Sail Area - 1919 sq ft

A replica of the ship on which Columbus sailed across the Atlantic on his three voyages of discovery of the new world beginning in 1492.  The tiny ship sailed over 25,000 miles under Columbus.

The four-legged animals were suspended in sling, below deck, as the rolling motion of the vessel would have easily broken their legs.
Humans slept out on the top deck.

The Pinta was recently built in Brazil launched in 2005 to accompany the Nina on all of her travels.
The Pinta is not an exact replica built 15 feet longer and 8 feet wider then the orginal.
 Deck length - 85', Beam - 23', Draft - 7.5'
Tonnage - 101, Sail Area - 3800 sq ft

Pets are welcome as long as they are carried and service pets are always welcome.
Isn't it great I was welcomed!
Look the size of one of Cincinnati's tour boats is about the same size as the Nina.
They were here all last week.

Sweet William The Scot
Well here is the two seconds before my Lee got knocked off the wharf  by a man walking backwards and talking to his children.   I, Sweet Wills, was running up and down the wharf trying to find a shorter distance to jump into the mighty Ohio River and save my Lee but a woman caught my leash and would not let go of me no matter how I barked.  Lee was grateful because she could not have saved us both.  The man in the canoe helped Lee back to the wharf.
Our first attempt at a video and perhaps our last.
Oh and the voices were the people behind us, one large family group.
For those who e-mailed and wondered about our on board pictures ~ well they were on a card disc that was in Lee's pocket and are now somewhere in the Ohio River.

  2. Ringy dingy one, Ringy dingy two...why, those ships have sailed the ocean blue...and now they are in your Nati City! That is amazing! I bet it was wonderful to see those ships and to be able to go aboard to see what people (and animals) had to endure on their trips across the waters. Wonderful! Thanks for sharing.

I can't believe Lee got pushed off the poop deck. BOL I just wanted to say poop. I'm glad you are okay Lee. I couldn't see the video.

    Aroo to you,

  8. You and your Lee seem to have had an adventure within and adventure. Glad your Lee was fished out of the Ohio River and hopefully unhurt. I love looking at the tall ships but it does not seem like the ship that small could sail across the seas.

  10. Oh my goodness, Lee was knocked into the water? That is horrid. Is she OK? Please Sweet William, give her an extra hug from us. Clearly that thoughtless man did not realise how precious she is to so many of us.
    Toodle pip!
    Bertie (and Gail).
PS The replica boats are amazing. But SW, I bet you were pleased no-one tried to suspend you in a sling and sail across the ocean when you were carried on board.
