On The Beach

How well do you know your fellow blogger?
We read each other post and once in a great while if we are lucky we get to meet them for an hour or so.  But do we really know them?
I, Sweet William The Scot, was talking to my girlfriend Bella
who lives in Australia over the holidays.  And I asked Bella why did HER live in Australia.  I knew that HER was originally from the States.  I caught that in a post HER had wrote.
Well Bella told me that when HER was a wee puppy HER had went to the movies with HER sisters and saw a movie called On The Beach.  From then on HER talked about going to Australia.
Has something like that changed your life????
Well I said to Lee we have to see this movie and we checked with the library and they had one copy in storage.  So we put in a request and when it got to us the day after Christmas we stacked up the pillows and laid down to watch.
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda, You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me,
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boil
You'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me.
Yep our minds still have the Matilda bug humming away.
Well there was only one Aussie in the movie but HER found that out later.
Well the last scene has a banner flapping in the wind proclaiming
"THERE IS STILL TIME".
So while there is still time tell me something about your peep!
I am not asking for that moment that changed their life forever.
But tell me something about your peep ~ like what was their favorite book they have read or what has been their favorite movie.
Have a slice of fruit ectdsy while you tell me something about your peep.
You can even ask me a question!
Thanks for being a friend
Traveling down the road and back again
Your heart is true and your a friend of  mine
Signing Off

    1. Why Lee had a Scottie puppy bought from a breeder and she was watching the pictures of this puppy every week on the internet and falling in love with blue boy (that is what she called the pup). Three days before Lee was to drive to Indiana to pick him up the breeder e-mailed and said she sold him for more money and was returning Lee's deposit. Lee had withdrawn enough money to buy that puppy and his brother. We kind of have the same beginning.

  3. Hi Sweet William, that is very interesting about Bella and HER.What can I tell you about my peep? When Gail moved from London to Aberdeen in 1999, she told a friend that although there were many things she would miss about London, living in Scotland would enable to fulfil three long held ambitions/dreams. These were to have a dog, a remote cottage in the mountains, and a boat. Well she soon acquired Hamish the Westie, and then me, and we have the cottage in Torridon, so that is two out of three. She is not sure if the sea kayak counts as a proper boat - I think she had in mind some sort of a sailboat, but she has learned that sailing and dog ownership are not very compatible, and so is quite happy with the way things are. We are wondering if Lee has always lived in 'Nati City, and if not, where else? And if so, did she ever fantasise about living somewhere different?

    1. Born and raised Nati City. Spent summers on her grandmothers farm Lebanon, Ohio. Met interesting people living here, Steven Spielberg, Drew Lachey, Colonel Sanders. Charles Manson was born here ~ glad Lee never met him. Lee had an opportunity to move to Edmonds, Washington and had her bags packed when her mother decided to sue her for "support in the manner to which she had been accustom". Which was Lee always taking care of her. Rather than being the first case tried in Ohio for that new law, Lee gave up the transfer. Ohio is the only state that we know that has that law.
Lee wishes she would have gone ahead an moved. Lee's biggest regret.

    4. They wouldn't let us go home. There wasn't a way out of Candlestick's parking lot that didn't involve going under a bridge. The bridges had to be inspected and certified as safe. It was quite a party until late at night.

  4. I think there are lots of little influences in our lives all the time - some we are intensely aware of change our lives in a big way and other just affect us in little ways. Thank you so much for the birthday card - Mom only got one other so it was special :)

  5. My assistant has moved about 30 times in her life, mostly when she was a kid. The funny part is in all those moves - she's never lived where she actually wanted to live. Most of the places were in the Midwest and she'd actually love to live near the ocean(either one) some day.

Even though she is getting older by the second, she is not giving up on her childhood dream to live near the ocean!

  7. My peep once drove from the other side of the Panama Canal to San Antonio, Texas. Occasionally, pointing had to be used because the locals didn't speak English or Spanish but the local Indian dialect.

Oh yes, you only have to be viewing any of my three bloggies to get a pretty good hold on who the YAMster is... WYSIWYG applies here! Which means very straight with a hint of the nutcase; just enough to make it interesting! Travel is a driving force in my life, which is why I'm on my way to the BAR... ought I to include a side trip to Nati City, d'ya reckon??? Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

    1. Well I know you are a vegetarian not vegan because you do eat cheese. Nati City was originally called Porkopolis pork-packing industry as an early building block of Cincinnati’s prosperity in the mid to late 1800s. Funny after you showed your menu on the plane and in Australia I looked up vegan restaurants zippity do da. I can't drive distance much anymore but I have a friend who I could recruit. What would you like to see???

It's true not vegan - even occasionally take eggs and once on a very blue moon (and with no other options) will take fish.

AARRRGFGHHHH Win10??!!! You can reverse that you know - am sticking with Win7 myself - but enough of that here.

I need to get busy on working out an itinerary and catching up with various blogpals who are not involved with BAR - do you mind to email me, so we can natter behind the screen, as it were?

  10. And here we are. There was another life-changing moment, when SHE decided to put up a time line on the classroom wall, showing the history of the earth and then realised even using milimetres, it wouldn't fit. So SHE decided life's too short to miss out on stuff!

  12. Crikey Sweet William ... I'd need a book to tell you about my peep. She's not at all adventurous. She is addicted to Australia and loves it with a passion that's really hard to understand. When she was little she said she was NEVER going overseas but she wanted to travel all over Australia. She's seen an awful lot of Australia, much more than most Aussies, but there's still places she wants to go. She has gone overseas with Dad a few times but never for very long. They were booked to spend 6 weeks in Europe one time and after three weeks Mum put on such a turn about missing home that they cancelled the rest of trip. She kissed the ground when she got off the plane and hugged the first gum tree so hard it probably died. She's always wanted to live in the country. That's not going to happen but she's happy at Noosa as long as she gets her country fixes a few times a year. She HATES big cities. She's a pretty basic person. She can live on the skin of an oil rag or so Dad says. She'd LIKE to be more adventurous.

  13. There's not much to tell about my mom, she's not really adventurous. She's only lived in two states Oklahoma and Texas.

  14. Lady's favourite movies: The Muppet Movie (original from 1979); Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (with Johnny Depp; Wolverine.
She and Man met in the back seat of a car (they were set up on a blind date and a friend drove).
Lady's dream is to be a writer, maybe someday.
She works with individuals with autism.
Growing up cats were her favourite and now it is dogs.
Her all time favourite author is Timothy Findley. She didn't like to read until she was 16 and her favourite teacher Mrs. Harvey had his "The Wars" on the course list. She owns everything he wrote. Current second favourite author is Carlos Ruiz Zafon. The Shadow in the Wind is amazing. Another favourite book is the Alchemist.
She survives her too long commute (the sacrifice for living in her dream home on her dream property) by listening to podcasts. Her favourites are the slow home and serial.
We hope that helps you know her better!

  16. Our mom grew up in California in the Bay Area. She left at 18 and moved to Idaho with her boyfriend who had family here. They married had 2 kids and divorced. He went back to CA and mom stayed in Idaho. Good thing she did or she would not have met Dad, her soul mate. In high school she sang with a group called the Campus 10 and in the 80's she sang with a local country band. She has worked at the same place for 43 yrs - a potato processing plant (they make french fries). She used to do the payroll but now she does cost accounting. one more year then retirement!

  18. Hmmm, Momma... Well, when Momma was a pup, she moved to England and lived there for a few years of high school. She said it shaped a lot of how she sees the world! (And gives her more insight into Harry Potter, BOL!)

  19. As a toddler mom lived in: Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) for 2 years; Atlanta, Georgia (USofA) for 6 months and; Tokyo (Japan) for 6 months!

Yup and you know what? She can't remember a single thing!! She spoke Portuguese before she learned to speak English, which was a bit of a problem seeing as Oumie and Grandpa could only speak and understand English *BOL* She can't remember a word of it now though.

  20. Oh, MY!!

Growlmy is Canadian...married to an American:)
Which means my boss boy and unfurbro are dual citizens...yup, they are and the papers prove it, even though there are baby pictures on them BOL!

Growlmy is of Dutch descent, the furst born to newly immgrated pawrents. But her sister (the correctional officer), is older and immigrated along with my Oma and Opa.
Opa among other things was a master clockrepairman, and taught growlmy a few things...hence she is the only one in my den who knows what to do if the weights on the clocks go too far and stop the clocks...alas, though; she doesn't know how to fix clocks...she trained as a nurse to help fix peeps:) Howevfur she no longer does that either...she works as an aide in a nursing home cause she did not want to go back to school after 20 years of not working at all...now you can tell that she is a oldie, OMD!

OK, time to stop babbling...nighty night!

    1. Are the wooden shoes hidden in the closet? Wooden shoes, windmills and tulips. Dual citizens ~ does one pay dual taxes? Lee has traced her fraternal side of the family back to the late 1600 and still being in what would become America. She is dirt old American.

    2. BOL! The only wooden shoes here are the Delft Blue China ones...
Nope, no dual taxes unless there is income from dual sources...

Growlmy is just dirt old, BOL!

  21. Hmmm..... My Momma has only lived in 2 states.. Texas and California. She is a 6th generashun Texan. Her Momma's family came to Texas in 1828 and her Daddy's in 1844, so she is a Daughter of da Republic of Texas times 2. She's like Lee-- both sides of da family traced back to da late 1600s here in da USA, Scots-Irish, landin' in Virginia, livin' dere and South Carolina... none of dem evfur livin' north of da Mason-Dixon. Da ya thinks dat is why she can't stand da cold, but da heat is just fine wiff her?

    1. Lee's family seems to have stayed north of that Mason-Dixon. During the Civil War one part went to Kansas and was hung by Quantrill's Raiders. Being Quakers we were all anti-slavery Free-Staters. Quantrill's Raiders were the best-known of the pro-Confederate partisan.
Daughters of The Republic of Texas that is interesting and a lot of history.
