Winter Blahs

COLD! COLD! COLD!

The temperature has been in the single digits all last week!

 

 

Are you trying to battle and beat the winter blahs? 

This time of year we start getting seed and flower catalogs like Jackson & Perkins or Burpee.

We look at the pages and start to think about what we will plant.

As Lee was going through the camera disk, she realized that I, Sweet William The Scot, had not showed you our porch flowers from last summer.

The basket above was hand forged with a date of 1892 that Lee found at a tag sale.

We have rail boxes around our porch.

Our theme last summer was pink and purple wave petunias, pink verbena and two different varities of potato vine plants.

We always have a hanging basket on the left side of our porch.

Last year it went from porch ceiling till it touched the rails.

Well I can dream of spring, can't I.

Wonder what we will have in our containers this summer?

Oh my Posh Paws Snazzi Jazzi will you honor me in being my date to the Valentines Dance that Mollie and Alfie are hosting?

We could skipped the light fandango
Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
Till we fell kind of seasick
And let the crowd call out for more
We could leave the room a hummin' harder
And let the ceiling fly away

And although our eyes will be open
They might just as well been closed

Because the only one I will see

Is my partner on the dance floor
My Posh Paws Snazzi Jazzi dancing with me!

I think I like this one best.

Or maybe the pink one.

Got to get this RIGHT
 so maybe Jazzi will give me a kiss.

If Jazzi says no
I'm off to join the circus

A Circus is coming to Blogville!. 

All I, Sweet William The Scot, ever hear is "gentle with your toys"   "William stop destuffing your toys"   "William make that toy last"   "WILLIAM stop chewing on your toy". I ask you what's a guy to do just sit and look at his toys? Jeez louise ~ oh my gosh Lee is just a pain in my butt ~ Lee has no purpose other than to hassle me when I am playing with my toys. Lee is a vexation, annoyance, nuisance when I am playing with my toys. Why Lee expects me to take care of my toys!

Lee comes from a long line of toy worshipers.

Why look at this. This toy belonged to her fraternal grandfather circa 1921. It is a Jazzbo Jim Tin Windup.

And these dolls that her maternal great grandmother brought over from Germany circa 1860.

Or this vintage Brass Lion Bank circa 1920 which belonged to her fraternal grandfather.

Why Lee has a whole chest of these old toys.

I, Sweet William The Scot, believe destroy your toys as fast as you can.

At the Cincinnati Museum Center there are cabinets of old toys.  Lee loves looking at them and saying I have that one!

Now I know Monopoly is a game but they are going to take away one of the tokens that have been in our game for a long time. Not since Mars discontinued the red M&M - which blessedly later returned - has a piece of your childhood been so threatened. Fans get to vote on which of the classic pieces - the car, thimble, shoe, dog, wheelbarrow, battleship, top hat and iron - gets to stay. The token with the lowest vote total is sentenced to life in Monopoly jail, never to pass go or collect $200 again. I say save the Scottie Dog Token. You got to save ME! My game has some of the old tokens that have been discontinued.   A purse, lantern, rocking horse and horse and rider are among pieces removed over time. In all 20 tokens have been cast since the game was introduced in 1935.

I hear the train a comin'

Here I am at Union Terminal.  Originally built in 1933 as a train station, Union Terminal is a National Historic Landmark and local treasure.   In 2007, it was voted one of the country’s most popular buildings by the American Institute of Architects.

 In 1990 it officially opened as Cincinnati Museum Center.

I am not going to show you the famous murals today.  I am here to show you the Duke Energy Holiday Trains.  Well I, Sweet William The Scot, am going to wait in the car while Lee shows you the trains, because I would want to chase them.

Duke Energy Holiday Trains began in 1946 in partnership with the Baltimore & Ohio (B&O) Railroad.

The portable model grew, as the railroad grew, through the 1940s, '50s and into the '60s.



These are two of the Conductors who run the trains from this control panel board.

One of the trains stopped and needed maintenance and this Conductor popped up in the display to get the train going.  You can see the size of the miniatures by seeing him.

In 2011, Duke Energy gifted the trains to Cincinnati Museum Center to ensure the trains and beautiful historic displays will stay in Greater Cincinnati.

More than 9 million people have come to see the Duke Energy train display.

The display is one of the largest portable models in the world.
Well Sunday the 6th was the last day to see the display till it opens next holiday season.
Lee just made it in time!
