Trilobites ~ Arrowheads ~ Money

My, Sweet William The Scot's, state fossil is the Trilobite.  The largest Trilobite on display at the Smithsonian Natural History museum is from Ohio.
Ohio designated the Isotelus Trilobite as the official state fossil in 1985.

The first appearance of trilobites was about 521 million years ago, then they disappeared in the mass extinction about 250 million years ago.
Even the earliest trilobites had complex, compound eyes with lenses giving superb depth of field and minimal spherical aberration.
Wonder if they saw their extinction coming??
Look at his little eyes.

Well Frankie and Ernie and Lana and Sarge and Lori have been searching everywhere they go in Ohio for a Trilobite fossil for 87 years.
Don't know why they can't find one, because my Lee has found cigar boxes full of them over the years.
Seriously they are hard to find!!!
Lee's grandparents owned a 166 acre farm that sat in Warren County, Ohio.
Glaciers in North America came down that far.
(As cold as this winter has been another one is probably forming.  Visit Frankie tomorrow to hear about how cold Icebox, Ohio has gotten. )
On the very back acre was a hillside that is said a glacier formed and pushed all these fossils onto.
Good for nothing but finding treasures for Lee as a child.

These fossils sell from $4,000 down to a few dollars.
My Lee has given away boxes to museums and history rooms.
Frankie mentioned Trilobites to me last year when we visited and we told them we had given all ours away.
Well Lee was wrong.  One box had fallen down in the insulation of our attic.
So Frankie & Ernie and Sarge you are each getting one Trilobite.
.  Lee found Indian arrow heads.  Fort Ancient is a name for a Native American culture that flourished from 1000-1750.  It is believed to be of the Hopewell culture.  Fort
Ancient sits in Warren County, so these arrowheads probably came from them.
This is truly a gorgeous big arrowhead spear, the best Lee ever found.
 Old 1800 pennies and fossils.
Look how big pennies use to be.

Someone shot a hole in this Canadian 1842 Penny!
Lee found old money on the hillside also.

Why look at the size of this tooth fossil.  Why I, Sweet William The Scot, would be one bite for a mouth with that tooth.

You can go and  thank Frankie, Ernie and Lana for this boring history post.

Do you look for things when you walk?
Tell me what your best ever find was!!!

Gift From A Follower and A Card

This gift was a SURPRISE and we still don't know who sent the Minties.  The note said "I don't have a blog but I enjoy following Sweet William's adventures".  "So when I found this freebee I put down your name."  Now somebody had to give them my address.  But it is still a mystery to me.
Wasn't that a nice gesture.
Thank You

Then I got a card from my buddy Oz The Terrier!
Why Oz said he was thinking about me and wishing Lee and me well.
Wasn't that nice.  The scottie has a green bow, I don't think it is St Patrick's Day yet.
The wind chill has my city at -12 degrees today and it is snowing.
My furs have static electricity.  I walk around looking like I put my paw in the electrical outlet.
Lee has a lot of things in the camera to show you, but Lee has been really busy reading and studying.

Baby It Was Cold Outside

Lee put on my boots and hat and told me it was cold outside!
Lee was right!!  Cincinnati saw wind chills in the range of -30 to -40 degrees last week.
The Ohio Emergency Management Agency warned people to stay inside last Monday if possible.
Stay inside man a dog has to do his business.
Every time I went out Lee had to come out and get me because I kept sliding down the driveway!
The steam off of the Ohio River could be seen on my hill.  Because of the cold the steam created snow.  The first time we have ever seen snow come from the river not the sky.
Ruby the Airedale you would have loved this because bubbles actually froze in the air and you could catch them and crunch them.
Early morning the world looked all black and gray.
We had ice then we had snow, 8 inches, and we had ice, then we had snow.
Will the weather ever make up it's mind?
But the sun came out and everything still stayed frozen.
See how everything looked in my backyard, that's ice.

The cold snap was due to a "polar vortex" that descended into much of the U.S. last Monday, bringing dangerous cold that broke decades-old records.
Good Bye Polar Vortex and don't you come back no more no more no more no more.

Everybody dress warmly.  It is a frozen New Years Eve.
The Dogsters advise pupsters wanting to leave a long pee mail to please text, as you will experience a dam as in you will form an icicle and the experience can be very painful.  You don't want to know how the Dogsters handle this medical problem.
That Ball on top of the firehouse is going to drop in Blogville for the first time.
Chief Bites and Officer Ranger are working the East Side and we have Officer Mr. K and Junior Officer Angus McConnell on the West Side to patrol the crowd.
And the Paramedic Team with  Benjamin Gilligan is standing by if anyone gets sick over by the Gazebo.
Bad Dawg Agency is performing there.  The women pupsters and kittenesteas will be swooning, why they drop like flies when the Bad Dawg rock.
The crowd is starting to grow.  They are forming a circle around the square.

Officer Ranger reported PUDDLES as being

Oh they are throwing their hats in the air!
Oh the crowd has started to sing Auld Lang Syne to each other.
Everyone has joined paws, someone take my paw, and they are swaying back and forth.
Most people don't know that Auld Lang Syne  is a Scottish poem written in 1788 by Robert Burns and later set to the music of a folk SONG.

Look What I Got From Katie

Why this box was a true shock.  Lee said to me, Sweet William The Scot, do you recognize the name?  Lee thought maybe I was having a secret affair.  But no I have an admirer.

Well inside was a card and it said "We couldn't resist the gift for your Mom.  Make her wait till Christmas to open!"
Well our normal Christmas is usually just me, Sweet William The Scot, getting presents.  Normally there are none under the tree for Lee.  It is just the two of us.  This year was a really BIG Surprise for Lee.  Okie Dokie I made Lee wait till Christmas morning.
Do you see how gorgeous Katie is over at Change Is Hard, why those furs look amazing!
Lee got socks, scottie socks!  Now Lee is wearing me on her feet.
I always knew Lee wanted to walk all over me.
This gift made us smile when we got a box from someone we did not know and it will keep us smiling every time Lee puts them on.
Thank You Katie, why you are a sweet as you look.

We took this picture at  Krohn Conservatory this year We thought it was really pretty.

Look What Reilly & Denny Sent

I got four presents this year.  Now here is the third envelope that came.
Why I got a package from Reilly and Denny over at Cowspotdog.
Wonder why they would send me a package.
Well their beautiful Scottie Card said " Every year we pick a couple of special buddies and send them a little gift to let them know they really are special to us".
When we read the card we just sat for awhile thinking how much Bree, Reilly & Denny has blessed our lives and how talented Bree truly is.
Did you know when she recreated our Blogville village with her trains they named the Bed & Breakfast the Sweet William B&B.  Lee said she always wanted to own a Bed & Breakfast.
Reilly, Denny & Bree sent us the scottie throw which we are using every night to snuggle in when we watch the television, we feel like we are snuggled in love.  AND we got one of her fabulous Zentangle totes with a scottie ~ the design is on both front and back.  Cowspotdog has a shop where Bree sells her wonderful cards, paintings and Zentangle.  Her shop is Paws For A Cause.  ALL the proceeds from the sale of her items go towards helping all creatures big and small.
We recommend them 100%
Thank You So Much Reilly, Denny & Bree
