Alfred Hitchcock movie The Birds & My Flowers

Some of you noticed I had a red bandage on my leg last week.
Well here is what happened.
It was something out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie the birds.
I, Sweet William The Scot, was minding my own business which always gets me into trouble ~ I gots to remember to stay in Lee's business.
I was resting by our Cone Plants, right here in the shade
Lee saw a Hawk land on the fence.  Why she even was taking pictures of it from our kitchen window when the thing flew down on me.
Those fence toppers of our neighbors are twelve inches tall!
Lee came running out with the umbrella which she had needed earlier in the day and was by the door.  Lee was swinging at the Hawk with an open umbrella to keep it off of her and get it off of me.
Lee says I was very dumb because I did not run.  I did nothing but hunker down!  But the vet said I was protecting the rest of my body.

Well that Hawk took a bite out of my back, yep he started to eat me.

$151 later at the vet I got a stitch and an IV antibiotic.
And Lee was told it was illegal to harm Hawks!  What crap on a cracker is that.  They can eat me alive and it is against the law for Lee to harm them in protecting me.

O.K. now for some pictures of our cottage style garden flowers around my yard.
Our Porch where Lee and I sit every evening rocking.  See our painted milk can it says Welcome with a flower and our watering can says Happiness Lee painted them.  Black-eyed Susan bloom everywhere.
Come on off the porch and I will show you some other flowers.
The high plant on the other side is a Trumpet Vine which attracts our hummingbirds.
The purple Cone plants really attract the American Goldfinch birds but that dam Hawk dives down on them and eats them.
The start of our side flower bed.  Begonia flowers, Phlox, Lilies, Hosta, Black-eyed Susan, Cone flowers.
Starting around our big Maple we have more Cone Flowers.
Then we have Canna plants which did really well this year.
We have a lot of shade, so we have a lot of Hosta plants.
Most of our Lilies got eaten by deer this year but this pretty one made it.
The Lantana attracted the butterflies in the side bed with the Lilies.
This pot sits by our back door.  It sits on another lime green chair.
This pot sits by our back tree.  The grass needs mowed.
Further back at the end of my yard we have a stone garden Lee is working on.
So sit in our Margaritaville painted chair on the other side of my house for awhile and enjoy our flowers.
Usually this chair has flower pots on each arm rest but they were soaking in water when I directed Lee to take the picture.
We love the green hues so our chairs are either white or green.  The green ones have sayings or designs Lee has painted on them and have all been rescued from someone's garbage.
One man's trash is another man's treasure.

  1. your chair is a super place to relax from that hawk-ribble adventure... I hope the big guy stays away from you and HE will not harm nor hawk harmless scotties who mind their own bussiness again....hope he is one the way to hawk-waii and your back yard is yours again...

  2. Sweet William, your garden is beautiful, but oh that hawk attack must have been scary for both you and Lee. I do hope your wounds are healing OK? It doesn't seem right that the hawk is protected and you are not. Although Gail says he is a very handsome bird indeed.
    Toodle pip!

  3. How rude of that hawk to try and eat you - it sure must of been hungry to go after you. You do have the most beautiful garden and flowers

  4. Hari OM
OMD Sweet Will.. what is this we read??!!! Well, certainly the magnificent hawks of the world deserve to live their lives - but golly-gee, entering suburban territory must come with a penalty. To be umbrellaed away is surely no harm and definitely good defence! Some folk find those fake owls to be a good deterrent, but given the delightful country feel your and Lee's cottage has, may be a scarecrow would fit in nicely?

Meanwhile, I too hope the wounds are healing well - that hawk certainly had eyes bigger than his belly!!! I am just so glad you have survived to tell us this chilling tale.

Loving the autumnal bloggy makeover!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  5. Mom is being the lady that gets attack by the birds for Halloween. Beautiful garden
    Lily & Edward

  6. You failed to pay me for your "protection" this year. Remember Tippi Hedron? She didn't pay either. :)

  7. Oh my gosh Sweet Will I cannot believe a Hawk tried to get you, we are so happy that he did not steal away, we used to know a pug family that lived in upper Minnestoa and that is what happened to him but it was an eagle....your moms yard is so beautiful and peaceful. stella rose and momma

  8. Cannot that Hawk attacked you! What a CRAZY bird! We're glad Lee attacked him with an umbrella....

  9. Boy, Sweet William are you lucky that Lee saw that Hawk eating you and came to save you. I hope you did not get hurt to badly. There was a hawk that came into our yard several years ago with mom right out in the yard with another Scottie. Mom was running and yelling and the neighbor saw the whole thing. Could not believe what happen. Your yard is just so beautiful all the flowers and colors. This is mom's kind of yard. Thank you for sharing.

  10. Wow the flowers are lovely. Now for that hawk if I was Lee I'd get me a slingshot and take that hawk out and plant a bunch of lovely flowers right on top of him. If no body is found no crime, right. Wink wink.

    Aroo to you,

  11. Holy pup you got bit by a hawk? My mom is scared of predatory birds. We are never off leash in the yard. You are bigger than us so maybe you wont' get picked up. Please be careful out there

  12. Scary! Momma says a pup in our nayborhood got carried off and killed by a hawk.

  13. OUr mom worries when the hawks are flying over and around our house and even more when we get big owls nearby - she makes us stay in if she can't be out with us. So glad he did not fly away with you. YOur yard is lovely with all the flowers

  14. We hope your back is okay, William. How awful for you! Hawks are pretty aggressive in our yard too and our mom is not fond of them at all. Your home is just beautiful!

  15. We can't believe that hawk thought he could eat you! Good thing Lee was there in a flash to get him off you. Your garden is just beautiful. What a lovely assortment of flowers you have.

  16. What a naughty hawk, thinking you would make a good dinner. Sheesh. Its a good thing you have some thick furs. We have red tailed hawks around here and they do take small prey, but not sure they would try to snag me. Glad you are going to be fine. I am more scared of the reports of lynx sometimes, and there are some coyotes and foxes around too; and we have seen bears in our city. Now that is nuts.

Your yard and porch are like a quite refuge! Beautiful!

  17. HOLY CRAP!!!! OH DUDE! Sorry abouts that hawk!!! geesh! I thought Scotties were too big for hawks to go after! What a bully!!! I'm glads you're okays! Good thing Lee was there with the umbrella! Sorry, butts I would have done the same thingie!
Your garden is just beautifuls!!! And...OMD, OMD, OMD....LOVES the chair!!!!!!!! MARGARITAVILLE!!! YES! I TOTALLY approve! BOL
    Ruby ♥♥

  18. I'm so glad that you're okay!!!! I'd chase away or even hurt any bird who was messing with you or with my dogs, no matter what the law. I hope that you're on the mend.

Just today, I met some people camping near here who have a miniature dog (like 3 lbs total) who they are letting run around unsupervised. I tried to explain about hawks and all the other wildlife but I don't think that they believed me or took me seriously. I think that you need to talk to them!

  19. This is very, very scary! Mum has hear about birds of prey flying off with little Yorkies, but she never thought that they would mess with a Scottie!! We are so glad that you are okay and weren't seriously injured...we don't blame Lee for swinging at those hawks, even if it was illegal (how dumb!)
