For Those Who Wanted To See Snow Last Week

Do you know what you get from sitting on the snow too long?
  Polaroids!

Do you know how a Snowman gets to work?
 He  By icicles.
And my award for best snowman goes to The Pope Snowman.  He stands about six feet tall in front of The Athenaeum of Ohio.  This snowman has great detail.  His Mitre, a ceremonial headdress consisting of a tall, white, peaked cap is a perfect replica.
Do I look like I hate SNOW?
Darn TOOTIN I HATE SNOW!
My furs are wet now and I am going back inside.

Okie Dokie you want to see cold.  Well here is a picture taken in 1944
it shows the Ohio River completely frozen over.  Why in that year you could walk across to Kentucky.
Picture taken by River Downs, Cincinnati, Ohio.
It use to freeze smooth.  Now days when it freezes it looks like big chunks of icebergs slammed together.  We have only seen it looking all sharp and jagged.

  1. Sweet William at least you can walk on top of all that snow. I sink down into it. Last night we had ice/rain and when the sun came out this morning it looks like diamonds shining every where. So pretty. I wonder why the river use to freeze smooth and not any more?
Glad to see you Sweet William,

    1. I think perhaps the Corps initiated the Ohio River Navigation Modernization Program in the 1950s. Life went from during the 1940s, a shift from steam propelled to diesel powered towboats which allowed for tows longer than the 600 foot. The Ohio River today is highly traveled. We see barges going up and coming down river everyday now.

  5. Why did the river freeze flat then and not now? It must be the increase in the squirrel population. Go get 'em.

    1. I know it's squirrel and you're sticking to that story. But now there are a series of 53 locks and dams installed on the 1,000 mile length of the river to help with flooding and to keep barges move. Hence the ice breaks up and is jagged like icebergs.
