Lee's tongue-lash·ing

I, Sweet William The Scot, have had a tumor.  We have known about it for six months.  Lee finally decided we would do the surgery even with my liver numbers being high which Lee did not know about till the morning of surgery.
Surgery was Friday morning.

My old vet the one who has been our vet and her last Scots vet well he retired and sold the practice to three women vets.

I went in at 7 a.m. at 1:15 they called and said I was awake and I could be picked up at 4.  Well Lee arrives to get me.  I am a total mess not cleaned up at all and NO DRESSING on my incision which is still bleeding and still not awake enough to walk.  Lee is not feeling good about this!

We get home Lee carries me in puts me on her bed and is cleaning me up.  Apparently three legs had to be shaved because they could not piggyback my IVWhat the fu**!  Lee is dressing my incision so I don't bleed all over her bed when she feels a lump at the end of the incision.

First Lee thinks this could be fluid and should she stick a syringe and suck off the fluid.  But as she palpitated the area is soft but pliable not like fluid.

Lee got back on the phone and hit redial and said tell that vet not to leave we were coming back in within five minutes.

The vet had taken out only part of my tumor had stitched me up with the rest of the tumor left at the end of my stitches.  Anyone with half a brain could feel it see it.
The vet then tried to tell Lee it was a second tumor they could show her my tumor they had it seal in a bag.  Like my Lee would not want to see!  WRONG!  Lee has seen a hell of a lot of worse things than a tumor.

The vet said she could give me a local and take out the second tumor because I was still out of it enough so I got cut open again because she would not open the first incision and the rest of my tumor was taken out!  Lee wanted it also.  Lee told them to get a dressing on the incision also because I go potty outside and Lee did not want me getting infected.

In the office Lee lined the edges of my gooey tumor up!  Yep it was one tumor that had broken apart and the vet was so careless not giving sufficient attention or thought to avoiding harm or error.

Even if it had been a second tumor right at the end of the first tumor why would you stitch me back up and not take it out since I was under anesthesia.  Anesthesia is a risk in itself.

I was awake enough getting cut a second time with a local that when we left I could see my Lee was steaming mad and the vet knew to keep her dam mouth shut!

Today I would say don't travel down my road again
Till my Lee can see straight!
Lee is taking good care of me.

  1. Oh dear Sweet William. First we have our paws crossed that you have a speedy recovery from your surgeries. Second we bet your mom might be looking for another vet for any future needs of yours. That sure was careless and not what we expect out of a competent vet.

O.M.D... darling Wills, and poor Lee, this is just HORRID!!! The tumour bad enough, the procedure pure hell... I'd've been fuming and foaming at the mouth too. I'd be following up with a report to the relevant registration body.

Can the previous vet be contacted for a recommendation of a replacement vet? Sending all the POTP I can muster through the ether for both your healing and Lee's temper. Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  3. We are sorry to hear about this and hope you get better real soon. Did the vet tell you what kind of tumor it is? We are curious because I have a big lipoma on my belly which my vet said would be complicated to remove. That picture of your tumor is very interesting. Yeah, my ghostwriter is a nurse and nothing grosses her out!

    1. There is a very rare form of cancer known as liposarcoma that occurs within fatty tissue and may look like a deep lipoma. A lipoma that grows quickly or is painful should be checked out by a doctor, and may need a biopsy.
My lipoma was deep and grew quickly and my liver values went up that is why the decision was made to remove. It was benign. Lee's first Scot Wee Robbie died from a liposarcoma which had been diagnosed as a lipoma.

    2. Thank you for that information. As a matter of fact, Chester had a sky high liver function test. His lipoma was biopsied and is benign. The vet says he probably has Cushing's syndrome, but needs to do some more testing. We'd better go for it. Thanks again.

    1. The vet's only problem is that he doesn't do birds.

  11. Oh Sweet William, this is all so upsetting. What a terrible thing to happen (and that vet most certainly should have found all the tumours - how many years of training do they do?) Poor you and poor Lee. We are sending our strongest healing wishes to you both, and hope to hear that you are on the road to recovery.
    Love and hugs,
    Bertie and Gail.
