Searching Down History

I, Sweet William The Scot, have been busy helping Lee find her heritage.  Lee has traced three sides of her family as being here before the American Revolution (1775–1783).
So we really are really celebrating the 4th!
On her father's side we are back into Scotland and England.
Her mother's family has been more difficult.  So we have been visiting cemeteries.
Her maternal grandparents are buried in this cemetery in our community.
Her maternal great grandparents are buried in another cemetery down the road.
But darn we have been thrown a curve ball, for her maternal father's side.  Seems grandfather's family changed their name. His father died when he was four, so no stories ever told.

They had come here from Easy's country, France, between 1800 ~ 1845.
And being French they probably came down out of Canada, French Canadian.
They spelled their name Parquet/Parquot/Paquot/Parent/Parker.
Great great grandfather's first name was Stephen.
Do you know what Stephen is in French?
Well I, Sweet William The Scot, know ~ it's Etienne.

Lee's ancesters probably left France after conflicts with Germany,
because on one document they had put Lorraine, France.
This darn fountain is spitting on me!

Well we have been climbing over weed mosquito infested cemeteries this past week.  We probably have the Zika Virus!  Darn we sure do itch and have welts.
Oh well neither one of us are having kids.
And the next time we go out we are not using DEET we are using dynamite.
I asked Lee if we were having fun yet.
But guess what!!!!
Lee found the tombstone of her great great grandfather.  Yep we found it in Brown County.  Two counties away from here.
Etienne Paquot was on his stone.
We still don't know where her great grandfather is buried.  Brown County records are not great for Ancestry work.

Well that has been our week.
That was the week that was
Its over let it go.
We are going to be doing a lot of this over the 4th of July weekend.  Pork loin chops on the grill with Lee's special rub.  Yummy, Yummy on my tummy because Lee always grills an extra one for me.

Thanks for being a friend

  2. We'd love a chop...or two. SHE did the family history thingy, but didn't get very far...as you say, changed names...etc. But it is fun, like putting together a jigsaw puzzle.

Gorgeous scarf, but too bad you couldn't add a bit of scent to it!

  4. Very cool abouts Lee finding her heritage! Ma's is relatively easy, Maternal side, IRISH, Paternal is SPANISH, Gpa was able to track travels to US through Mexico and all of S. America, butts got stuck in Cuba. Surprise there were no records from there. Anyhu, I'm glads that you and Lee didn't gets the Zika, and that you aren't having pups...that would be a Guinness type thing! BOL!!!
Loves the scarf! That Auntie Yam sure does have good tastes!
    Kisses,

  5. You're doing a lot better than Kaci or Kali. They're rescues and have no clue.

  6. What a fascinating week you had. Everyone one is an immigrant if one goes back far enough in family history. A fact our more obnoxious politicians often conveniently forget.
    Toodle pip!
    Bertie.
PS Those pork chops look yummy, and you are posing very nicely with the pretty scarf from Aunty Yam.
PPS We are listening to the Radio as we write. We learn that it was exactly one hundred years ago to the minute that the British troops first went over the top at the Somme. On the Radio, the observed a two minute silence (always a difficult thing the radio) and then played bagpipe music. So it was stereo bagpipe in the Bertie household for a moment this morning!

  7. Geneology is furry interesting sleuthing work!
Growlmy's uncle searched in Europe for his father's family...that would be growlmy's 'Opa'. Traced it back to the early 1600's and then some bits and pieces way back to the 12oo's...wow.

Her other Opa got traced by a cousin of his...similar results. But it ran into trouble after the fact that one churches records got ruined in a fire...

Here in the USA, pawpy;s uncle did some of that tracing work, too. His family came from an island off of Denmark, they were ship builders. They came to this country in the early 1800's. To Missouri.
Pawppy's Mom traced her heritage to England...then to Pennsylvania.

Its an intriguing and time consuming activity...but well worth it.
You are a good helper, SWTS!

That is a lovely scarf your Lee got.
    And yummy BBQ!!

  9. How interesting. I've heard the name Etienne but never knew it translated to Steven. I learn something new every day in Blogville. Watch out for those nasty mosquitoes.

  11. Mom loves looking at old headstones. In her hometown, there is a cemetery called Spring Cemetery and that is where most of her people are laid to rest. Spring was her maiden name.

    Aroo to you,
