Cincinnati hosted the All-Star Game last week.
Yep my home town got to see the National League go down at the Great American Ball Park.
And it seemed like Lee and I, Sweet William The Scot, kept going down in getting pictures because of the bad storms, fifty mile an hour winds and ninety degree sauna heat we have had.
But we got a few pictures taken from the comfort of our AC car.
Decorations were everywhere, from cookies to flower pots to buildings to trash from the storms.
We support hometown favorites with Iced All-Star Pack cookies, including our "We Believe In Pete!" cookie where each cookie sold counts as a vote of support for our very own Charlie Hustle.
Even signed boxes.
As Cincinnati cleans up and recovers from the MLB All-Star Game, the Cincinnati Parks’ potted plants that lined the entrance and parts of the streets leading to the ballpark need new homes.
So pots are now being sold.
Each pot is decorated with a different MLB team logo and color palette. There are 60 pots total – two for each of the 30 MLB teams.
Cincinnati was home to America's first professional baseball team in 1869 and has hosted the All-Star Game four times in the past.
Cincinnati had twenty massive mustache statues throughout Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
A reference to the styles of 1869, featuring artwork unique to the Reds and Cincinnati's history hosting the game.
Each is about two-and-a-half feet high, eight feet wide and weighs about 850 pounds.
Another storm moving in for this shot. Can you say hazy, hot and humid.
A Mr. Redlegs style pillbox hat and mustache were installed atop the Scripps Center, a 36-story skyscraper in downtown Cincinnati overlooking the Great American Ball Park.
It cost about $100,000 to install and for removal from the Scripps Center they have said.
Now my Lee worked in the next building on the 45th floor for many years.
So she thought this was the neatest thing.
The Carew Tower was lit with an image of a vintage Red Stockings player every night for two weeks. And getting a night picture was the darnedest thing with our crap camera. So we drove round and round so we could get a shot from our car.
Using two 12,000-lumen projectors ~ on loan from Walt Disney World ~ that drew enough electricity to power four homes. Maybe that is why we have been having a lot of brown outs. At Disney, they're used to light up Cinderella Castle. Guess Cinderella's Castle has been dark of late.
The baseball player was 20 stories high.
Oh and Todd Frazier a Cincinnati Red won the Homerun Derby and now the locals are calling him the Todd Father. We are seeing people wearing tee shirts with Todd Father on them.
Thanks for being a friend

Ringy-Dingy Sir William...why, I didn't realize that your Nati City was hosting the All-Star game. How cool is that? I love the potted plants idea. Did you and your Lee buy one? It would be a lovely addition to your garden. Thanks for another great tour of your Nati City. I do enjoy them so much. I hope you and your Lee are doing well.
ReplyDeleteYour friend, to the end,
Oz
The Carew Tower looks great. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteAroo to you,
Sully
In 2011 when we hosted the game, nobody put mustaches on the cactii. The problem with "ToddFather" is that is was for Todd Helton of Colorado who retired after last year. Frazier needs a unique nickname.
ReplyDeleteWilliam that's great to read so much things about your town (maybe they will call it Williamsburg once?) My momma awwed as she read about the plants who got a new home, she would like to have one... although she has black thumbs (poor plants).
