Dog Day Of Summer Event

Our Rodeo post last week did not go out to our reader's feeder.

The 8th Annual Dog Day of Summer Event was held at Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum.

 A unique 733-acre combination cemetery, park, outdoor museum, and arboretum that welcomes visitors and guests to experience over 44 miles of winding roads, 15 serene lakes, a 10-acre woodland preserve, and an amazing collection of architecture, sculpture, and horticulture. 

It is recognized as a US National Historic Landmark.

The Norman Chapel at Spring Grove Cemetery was constructed in 1880. It is fashioned in the Romanesque revival style and boasts several beautiful stained glass windows.

Lee has attended several services here for people who have donated their body to science.

The chapel sits by the entrance. 

 Oh the dogs are arriving and I had to meet and greet everybody.

We were setup in the nice shade with watering stations and pools. 

I liked sitting here because the television stations that were at the event kept taking my picture.

Sadly it was this pretty sheltie's owner who got badly bitten over and over which I talked about in my post two weeks ago.
Lee has searched the news stations and papers and like so many news storys they never cover the end of the story.

This section of the cemetery is dedicated to veterans.

This section is dedicated to the little ones who only had a few minutes or days on earth.

The Dexter Mausoleum is a private, family mausoleum, often mistaken for one of Spring Grove's three chapels. Dexter was a English immigrant - a "whiskey baron." His mausoleum was intended to resemble a Gothic Revival "funerary monument." Designed in 1869, it boasts the only two symmetrical buttresses in Cincinnati. It is registered as a historical landmark.

Now Lee wants to talk about the dog fight that happened.  
The more she replays the event  in her mind and thinks about the dog we called a Husky, we think it was a hybrid dog.  We have several breeders close to Cincinnati.  We had met one at Julip Park and Sweet William had the same reaction of sniffing the wind and jumping into Lee's arms.  Our friend Janet knew a family who had a hybrid and sadly they had to put it down at age six when it became aggressive to its family just like this dog was.  This dog's fur was more wolf like and it had a smaller than normal rib cage and a slanted hind quarters.
