Around My Home & A Misty Memory

Due to Kennel Cough and Canine Influenza in Cincinnati several kennels and doggie daycares have shut down temporarily being as this is so contagious, Wills and I stayed home this past week.
Can you guess what has my attention?
Clue look closely at the carpet particularly to the left of me.
I have two little prize packs to give away.

Bloggers ask me, Sweet William The Scot, since you live in the city do you ever see much wildlife.
Why yes I do.  Last year a black bear was in the hood.
This year we are seeing red foxes.
We have birds all around our home nesting.
I told Kismet I could send her the blue eggs.
The little babies born on July 3rd, 4th, 5th.
We watched them every evening as we sat on the porch and the Momma and Papa birds were only feeding the ones who had their mouth up the highest.  Sadly the little one died.
Then a week of terrible storms, we watched over them.  The Momma flipped them on their backs and both parents sat on the nest tight.  Sadly they smothered one.
But the biggest one made it to fly off.
Lovely butterflies, but the odd thing we have noticed several with just half a wing.
A friend who lives in Ely, Nevada, Noodle Dog, sent us a picture of a butterfly just like this one and it also had a half of one wing.  Noodle Dog well her name is Nessa and she does not have a blog but e-mails us and has become a friend.  Nessa has a vestibular problem just like Lee.
Spotted twins walking down my street.
Their Mama was killed on highway but another Mama deer with just one younger baby took them on.
We have another nest of baby birds in the ivy on the other side of our home.
One speckled egg.  Turns up we have three babies again.
All the birds are nesting low.  This nest is just three feet up in the ivy on our foundation.
Guess they knew we were going to have strong storms this year.
Have you read this is the hottest year ever recorded.
Hummingbirds, we have three varieties.   One little one will land on Lee's shoulder and does he ever scold Lee when the feeders are low.  We hang several feeders in our trumpet vine next to the porch so we can watch them.  Why they come right up to my face and chatter away.  I am a dog and I have no idea what they are saying.
No I have not seen any lions YET!
Big guy don't take a tinkle splash till I get down okie dokie!

Well now I have one little thing to give away.
It is a bar of lovely peppermint goat milk soap with a molded scottie on top and a mini magnet in a different color.
So everybody who wished my Lee a happy birthday last week and everybody who guesses correctly what I am seeing in the first photo will have a chance to win.  We will pick two names in a random draw.
Now let me tell you why Lee loves goat milk soap.
Meet Jenny on the right and Lucy on the left.
They were loaded in the truck to show at the fair.
The picture was taken early early morning.
These were Lee's Purebred Mini-Toggenburg AAA Goats.
Jenny was a dark chocolate and Lucy light fawn.
They are called Toggs.  They were the most loving kind animals. They are at the bridge now because this picture was taken twenty seven years ago.  Lee's first Scot Wee Robbie knew these goats.
Lee use to make goat milk soap.  Goat's milk has plenty of extra vitamins and proteins that are great for the skin. Soap made with goat's milk will turn out very creamy and have a great lather.

Thanks for being a  friend
Traveling down the road and back again
Your heart is true and your a friend of  mine

  1. is that the same bad influenza what was in chicago a couple of weeks ago? I cross my paws for all pups of your town, William.
It's sad when one of the winged friends can't make it, but at least one of that birds is still there and maybe next year that bird is back an will build a nest on your place too. My mommas grandgranny had a goat too, her name was Miss Hepple (named by the math teacher) and that wasn't a nice goat, it attacked my momma with his head and although Miss Hepple had no horns my momma got a lot of blue marks :o)

  2. Mom had pigmy goats when she was a kid, get it "kid" BOL. The blue eggs are so pretty are they robin eggs? Mom can't look at baby birds when they are naked it grosses her out. I got my butt whipped this weekend when I was trying to catch this little bird just learning to fly. Mom told me to stop but I couldn't and I actually got my paw on it and then mom lit into me. I haven't learned my lesson I still go over by the tractor where I first saw it, ya know how us Scottie's are once we get something in our head....

    Aroo to you,

  3. Stay healthy!!! We are having more wild life this year than normal. We saw a fox recently, thankfully not in our neighborhood. Mom has also seen deer this year. Our main problem has been a huge increase in the bunny population.

Well William I suspect you's got yer eye on a biscuty treat!!!

What an array of urban wild things you have... and certainly it is survival of the fittest. I know I love goats cheese, so am sure the soap must be equally good - goats are fun animals! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx

  8. Oh, Sir William, I, like you, love the baby birds. Why, remember the other week when I showed everybody how Bentley and I rescued those two little birds that fell out of their nest? Can you guess how they did? Wonderfully! The momma fed them and they got big enough to fly away. Woof-hoo! Now, in that first photo I know that what doesn't have your attention is a treat...because we all know Lee just gives you carrots :-p So, I would say that maybe a toy has got your attention...possibly one that squeaks as we all know we Scot Terriers love a good squeaker!

As for the carpet, I am quite puzzled. I even biggified the picture, but still saw nothing. Gail says maybe it's an invisible slug trail with a slug at the end of it, but I am sure your house is far too clean for such a thing.

  19. We LOVE all those animal photots!!! My mom got back last night - she spent a week in Alaska and saw lots of animals, too. We're suckers for fawns. My mom buys goat milk soap for my baths. They sell it at the farmer's market and it's made for us pups. It feels so good on my itchy summer skin. I think it's adorable how your mom had sweet goats waiting for her at the bridge! Are you watching a balloon? I have to admit, those things kind of freak me out because the m-o-v-e!! We hope you had a wonderful birthday, Lee!!

We have plenty of birds and such but you'll very seldom, if ever, find any other form of wild animal anywhere near the cities and suburbs here in SA...oh, except for maybe monkeys down in the Cape and up north from us.

So, we've looked and looked and looked at your photo...we can see something red shining down to your left and we are thinking that it might be the flash or something from Lee's camera. We know that Lee's camera broke butt we are being optimistic here and are hoping that she got it fixed!
